Overview
A design that first saw the light of day in the form of the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car in 2003, the Type 42 Audi R8 was absolutely ground-breaking when the final design was revealed to the world at the Paris Motor Show of 2006.
Developed in conjunction with the Lamborghini Gallardo thanks to the shared ownership of both brands via the Volkswagen Group, the R8 was first launched with an engine almost identical to the B7 RS4’s V8, albeit modified to use a dry sump lubrication system. In 2008 Audi revealed a V10 engine, based on the Gallardo LP560-4’s V10.
Made famous as Tony Stark’s car of choice in the original Iron Man trilogy, the R8 secured a place in history as a piece of pop culture iconography and its forward-thinking design has aged like the finest of wines.
