“An all-round package - practical, comfortable, fast and fun” - so wrote Evo magazine when it spent time with the 2019 model of the RS6. “Audi has taken everything that made previous RS6s capable all-rounders and improved upon it – while adding a dose of driver interaction that its predecessors lacked,” it added. The pace provided by the V8 engine is quite deceptive, which to give some perspective, by now is about one-third more powerful than the lump sat in early RS6s. That goes some way to explaining why rear-wheel steering and a sports differential at the rear axle are now included, to give the car more traction.
This works alongside Dynamic Ride Control to ensure a composed drive on pretty much all surfaces. A centre differential will adjust the amount of power between the front and rear axles depending on road conditions. So while the standard split is 40:60 front and rear, in some conditions, as much as 70 per cent of the pull can be channelled through the front, or up to 85 per cent can come from the back.
